Interest and Literature Sessions

The National Collegiate Choral Organization (NCCO) invites applications for interest sessions relevant to the collegiate choral profession for the 2021 national conference. Sessions may be 20 or 40 minutes in length, and may feature one or more presenters (i.e., sessions may include a colleague from the choral field, another discipline, or a composer).

Presentations should focus on a topic of interest to NCCO’s general membership, which includes both faculty and students from a range of institution types and sizes, including two- and four-year colleges, as well as universities of varying sizes with students with a broad spectrum of musical backgrounds. Sessions may take on a variety of forms including, but not limited to, lecture, an interview with a guest, engaging the audience in guided activities such as singing, and more.

Preference will be given to proposals that reinforce the conference theme of Building Beloved Community as well as topics related to NCCO’s newly adopted Vision and Mission Statements. Presenters wishing to include live singing must rely on the assembled audience rather than bringing in an ensemble from their own institution.

Literature-focused sessions should be 40 minutes and examine approximately five to seven works, and may include musical analysis, historical perspectives, pedagogical/rehearsal considerations, and/or related commentary from the presenter. For literature-focused proposals, cost of music will be taken into consideration and applicants may be encouraged to find alternate ways of presenting cost-prohibitive works. AV support will be available and coordinated after proposals have been reviewed and selected for the conference.
